Book Collection
Let’s Talk Books!
Part of J3’s mission has been to increase book access for our under-served struggling readers. We have carefully and intentionally curated a diverse book collection of over 1,500 titles to share with our school communities.
We ensure ALL J3 books:
-
recognize and celebrate diverse experiences, including (but not limited to) LGBTQIA, Native peoples, people of color, gender diversity, people with disabilities, and religious minorities.
-
promote inclusion
-
feature the latest Coretta Scott King, Caldecott Medal, & Newberry Medal award winners
-
feature new and upcoming diverse authors too!
In addition to promoting diversity in the content of our books, we have a unique challenge of building a collection that provides our struggling readers with high-interest books BUT these books need to be at their reading level (i.e. we want to provide them with books that don’t look like “baby books”).
J3 has met the unique challenge of building a collection that provides struggling readers with high interest books.
Our carefully curated library features:
-
the latest picture books (fiction and nonfiction),
-
graphic novels,
-
highly illustrated chapter books,
-
early chapter books, and a
-
variety of highly illustrated non-fiction books. (Joke books and riddle books are a favorite!)
