She arrived from South America with limited English and a first-grade reading level. By year’s end, Jasmine was reading fluently in English at a third-grade level—with newfound confidence and a love of books that helped her shine in both Cozy Reading Club and classroom settings.

Jack’s parent shared a powerful reflection on their child’s growth through J3: “My child learned how to slow down, and not just guess at long words. My child started reading more, without a fight, and is much better at reading to us aloud thanks to this program.” A simple, heartfelt reminder of how J3 helps build not just skills—but confidence and connection.

Levon didn’t just build skills—he built confidence. After joining J3’s reading programs, he proudly stepped up to compete in his school spelling bee, a moment that showed just how far he’d come.

She’s one door away from discovering she can read. This door is still closed. But not for long.

Daron began the year reading at a first-grade level, struggling with words like rash, thin, and path. After completing 40 lessons in J3’s in-school reading intervention program and participating in Cozy Reading Club, he ended the year reading words like hoping, hiding, and sight words such as carry, friend, and wild with 100% accuracy.

“Daron worked hard every session,” said his Reading Coach. “By the end of the year, he was reading with fluency and confidence—what a transformation.”

Mason’s reading growth was undeniable. Once reluctant to pick up a book, he began reading eagerly at home—his parent once shared, “For the first time, my son wouldn’t put a book down.” Years later, that same parent spotted a J3 Reading Coach at their school’s open house and smiled with recognition: “You’re still doing J3! I’m so glad. My son graduated and did so well in fifth grade. I’m so appreciative for the program.”

He doesn’t know he’s a reader yet—he just needs someone to believe in him. You can change that.

Adrian, a vibrant and joyful fifth grader, was one of the few students invited to join J3 outside the usual 4th-grade focus. By the end of the program, he was proudly reading more challenging books and left with a giant stack of new favorites. He graduated with pride—and just a hint of sadness that his time with J3 had come to an end.

Aliyah’s parent shared an inspired reflection on their child’s growth with her J3 coach: “You are an amazing teacher. I love what the program has done for my daughter. Aliyah has grown so much. She used to never read and now she follows me around the house and makes me listen to her read the books she brings home from J3.”

Catalina started the year reading at a third-grade level and graduated from J3 in the spring with even stronger skills. Her joy in reading, especially aloud, continues to shine through in every book she picks up. “Catalina worked hard every session,” said her Reading Coach. “By the end of the year, she was reading with fluency and confidence—what a transformation.”

Janae joined Cozy Reading Club alongside her older brother. In that quiet, joyful space, reading became something they shared—and something Janae began to love on her own terms.

Elias began J3 reading at a kindergarten level as a fourth grader. He has made remarkable strides. By year’s end, he is reading complex words like airport, purple, and giggle with 100% accuracy—it looks like he’ll be reaching grade-level reading for the first time.

Abril began the year shy and hesitant to read in front of others. By spring, she was reading aloud confidently—even stepping up to read the Book of the Day in front of everyone! She found her voice, and it showed.

Tariq received the “Most Improved in Reading” award at his school —an impressive recognition for a J3 student! One earned through focus, effort, and grit. The moment he was called up, his face lit up with pride.

Sona began J3 as a thoughtful, quiet presence—but over time, her confidence grew. Through journaling, encouragement, and the SEL lessons woven into Cozy Reading Club, she found her voice. By sixth grade, she was a leader—earning her school’s Principal Award for Citizenship. Alongside Sona, three of her fellow J3 alumni earned the Gold Presidential Award and another earned Silver—an extraordinary reflection of the growth, leadership, and resilience sparked during their time in the program.

Nia began J3 reading below grade level—but with support, she caught up just in time for 5th grade. A leader in her group, she tackled books like her favorite, Wings of Fire, with accuracy and fluency. She even won J3’s bookmark competition, a testament to the confidence and love of reading she gained along the way.
