J3 Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring all students—regardless of race or background—achieve grade-level reading proficiency and develop into lifelong learners. J3 partners with schools to provide targeted reading intervention services that support student literacy growth.

Contract Role Overview

J3 Foundation is seeking experienced Independent Contractor Reading Coaches to provide small-group reading intervention services to 4th-grade students. Contractors will deliver services using the SIPPS curriculum during the school day, on school campuses, in coordination with school sites and J3 Foundation.

This is a part-time, limited-scope contract role. Contractors retain discretion over how instructional services are delivered, within agreed-upon program expectations and student goals.

Scope of Services

  • Provide small-group reading intervention services (up to 6 students per group) using the SIPPS curriculum
  • Administer pre-assessments and progress monitoring tools and submit agreed-upon student performance data
  • Maintain accurate service logs and attendance records for invoicing and reporting purposes
  • Create a supportive, inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and literacy growth
  • Coordinate as needed with school site staff and J3 Foundation regarding student rosters and service delivery
  • Participate in periodic coordination meetings (virtual) as mutually agreed
  • Pick up or return program materials up to three times annually (mileage reimbursed)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience providing reading instruction or academic support to elementary-aged students
  • Experience working in urban school settings
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage assigned service commitments
  • Reliable transportation for travel to assigned school sites
  • Comfort using Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms for documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education
  • Reading Specialist background or 3+ years supporting struggling readers
  • California teaching credential
  • Experience using the SIPPS curriculum
  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English and/or Armenian/English)

Contract Terms

  • Contract Duration: Now–April (aligned with the school calendar)
  • Estimated Time Commitment: Approximately 10–15 hours per week
  • Service Location: On-site at assigned school location(s) in Compton, CA
  • Compensation: $33–$38 per hour (commensurate with experience)
  • Invoicing: Contractors submit invoices for services rendered
  • Reimbursements: Mileage reimbursement for approved material pickups (up to 3 times per year)

Independent Contractor Status

This role is offered as an independent contractor position. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes, insurance, and business operations, and may provide similar services to other clients.
